What is the Fostering Success Act?
An income tax credit for approved Georgia taxpayers for donations made to qualifying organizations that provide care to foster youth ages 16-25.
Approved participants can redirect state income taxes to help provide housing, life skills, and stability to youth—and receive a dollar-for-dollar reduction in their state tax bill.
When you reallocate your tax dollars to Open Door Home through the Fostering Success Act Tax Credit, you directly support youth in foster care in northwest Georgia as they transition into adulthood.
How does the tax credit work?
Reduces your Georgia state tax liability Your tax dollars are redirected to support the youth and services at Open Door Home, and you receive a dollar-for-dollar credit for the taxes you redirect.
Eligibility/Maximum Contribution
Single or Head of Household: $2,500
Married Filing Jointly: $5,000
Owners of LLCs, S-Corps, or Partnerships: $5,000
Corporations or Pass-through entities: Up to 10% of Georgia income tax liability
Example: If single taxpayer owes $2,500 in Georgia State taxes. After they’ve been approved for the Fostering Success tax credit and donate $2,500 to Open Door Home, their Georgia Tax Bill will be $0.
Process to apply for the Fostering Success Tax Credit
Step 1. Apply for pre-approval
Visit gtc.dor.ga.gov to create an account at the Georgia Tax Center.
Select Open Door Home as the Foster Child Support Organization.
Receive approval letter from the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Step 2. Make your contribution
You must donate within 60 days of approval by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Step 3. Claim your tax credit
Open Door Home will send you the confirmation form (IT-QFCD-FUND1) for your records.
Include form IT-QFCD-TP2 when you file your taxes to receive the credit.
