Apply for Pre-Approval for the Fostering Success Act Tax Credit
Step-by-Step Instructions

Information you will need while applying for pre-approval:

  • Your tax ID number (for individuals this is probably your social security number)

  • Your most recent Federal Adjusted Gross Income (for most individuals, this will be on your 2024 tax returns), and

  • How much you intend to contribute (see maximum contribution numbers below). 

Begin by signing up for or logging in to the Georgia Tax Center: http://gtc.dor.ga.gov/. 

  • If you're signing up for the first time, you may need to check your e-mail for confirmation of registration and then log-in to the site.

  • Once you're logged in, go to the e-services Summary page.  From the list on the right, select "Manage My Credits".
    The next page is "View My Credits", from the list, select "Request Credit Pre-Approval". 

  • On the next page, in the drop down menu, select "151 Foster Child Organization Credit".

  • Next, select the 2025 fund, then confirm your taxpayer and contact information is correct. 

  • Continue to provide additional taxpayer information and then provide the amount you want to contribute.

    Contribution maximum amounts by filing status

    Single/Head of Household: $2,500

    Married Filing Jointly: $5,000

    Owners of LLCs, S-Corps, or Partnerships: $5,000

    Corporations or pass-through entities: up to 10% of Georgia income tax liability)

  • From the drop down menu, select "Open Door Home".  

  • Confirm and submit. Print or make a note of your confirmation number. 
    You are now done with this part of the process.  

What happens next

You will receive a letter after your pre-approval has been reviewed.

This letter will inform you of your approval status. 

Once you receive this letter, you will have 60 days, or until the end of the calendar year, to make the donation in the amount indicated in the letter directly to Open Door Home (click here to go back to Step 2).
